Staff Profile – Liam Grace, Teacher

What was your background in and what led you to this new role with MacKillop?

I have been teaching PE, Maths and Science in Queensland for the past several years and decided last year to move back home closer to family. I grew up on the eastern shore (loved every second of it) and was very keen on contributing to this special community.

I felt that there would be a great opportunity for me to resonate with the young people of this community and support them.

How have you found joining the MacKillop community so far?

It’s always a bit chaotic when starting somewhere new but it is starting to settle – thankfully I’m finding that I am well supported and have some excellent classes that have made the transition so much easier. I have been impressed with the extra curricular opportunities the school provides as well as the care the school has for its students – the Wellbeing Centre and Learning Hubs are fantastic initiatives to support them.

What is something students may not know about you?

I have lost 8 footy grand finals before finally winning one last year (and the Lions won the AFL flag too so that was a bonus!).

What were you like as a student?

Pretty cruisy (I think!), I wasn’t the best at sport or the smartest kid in the class, but I worked hard and tried to stay out of trouble. Mr Di-Ienno might be a better person to ask… He was my PE teacher in Year 9.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m pretty open to trying new things hence I probably have way too many hobbies, but I love being outside. I’ve played nearly every sport imaginable and enjoy anything to do with the ocean.
