In August, School of Rock was brought to life over five vibrant performances across three days at Guilford Young College. After six months of twice-weekly rehearsals in their own time, our dedicated students from Years 7–12 put on an awesome show that showcased their talent, teamwork, and passion. For many, this was their first time performing in a musical, and they were beautifully supported by returning cast members from our previous production, High School Musical. The camaraderie and mentorship between students created bonds that will no doubt last a lifetime.
Each cast member embraced their role with passion and individuality, allowing their personalities to shine through. The growth in confidence from the first rehearsal to closing night was truly inspiring. A special mention goes to Year 12 student Hannah Jackman, who took on the demanding role of Dewey. Her portrayal was witty, heartfelt, and thoroughly entertaining she made the character her own. Behind the scenes, our choreographer Rachel Williams brought infectious energy and precision. Producer and singing director Nicolas Courto kept spirits high and harmonies tight with his quirky humour and musical expertise. Jessica Hiller and her phenomenal band tackled an adult score with professionalism and patience. The Costumes were a huge task. Sally Tew and Jacqueline Godfrey transformed ideas into stunning outfits gold buttons, Horace Green emblems, and bedazzled jackets added flair and authenticity. Miss Godfrey also stepped into the role of stage manager, leading a backstage team that executed the many scene transitions. Year 7 student Isaac Bricknell ran the lighting like a seasoned pro, learning quickly and performing flawlessly.
This production was a true team effort a celebration of creativity, resilience, and joy. Watching students embrace the experience with tears, laughter, and excitement reminded us why we do this. It’s exhausting, exhilarating, and utterly rewarding. Until next time rock on, bring on MacKillop Musical 2027!
