History
During 1993 the Catholic Church purchased the site and buildings of Mornington Primary School, which had ceased operation as a state primary school at the end of 1992, as a consequence of falling enrolments. There was some dispute about the suitability of the site for a secondary school but subsequent developments have justified the original decision.
MacKillop College opened on 9 February 1994, with 59 students. During that first year, the Catholic community watched with great interest the birth of the College. By 1997 student numbers had risen to 340, in 1998 there were over 400 students, and in 2004 the enrolment has grown to over 500 students at the College.
Seven stages of the building programme are now complete, providing excellent facilities which include a Gymnasium, specialist Drama, Music, Home Economics, Information Technology, Science, Art, Material & Design learning areas. The last stage, stage 8, completed in 2004, has seen the development of a purpose built, Year 7 complex, modelled on the latest thinking in educational design.
The rapid growth of MacKillop College is testament to the vision of system and school administrators, board members, staff and parents who laboured to turn their vision into vibrant reality. It is testament also to the trust placed in us by parents and students, particularly those in the first years of the College's life. Today we build on the achievements of those who have gone before us.
MacKillop College is a co-educational Catholic College which aims to develop a unique identity of faith, hope and love based on the vision and person of Jesus Christ.
As a community of students, parents and staff working together towards common goals, we strive to be welcoming, open to and supportive of each other.
At MacKillop College we aim to educate the whole person, spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and morally. We believe in the importance of a broad curriculum suited to the needs, abilities and interests of the students. We aim to provide encouragement and opportunity for each student to reach excellence and to achieve to the best of one's God-given talents.
