Year 10 Career and Transition

Careeers Taster Week Sept 2008
1. My Resume
2. Finding That Position
3. Winning That Position

Our career and transition programme for Year 10 students was launched on Tuesday 1 July 2008.

The program is based around a “My Future” map – see picture. Students are asked to research and reflect on their aspirations, career directions, goals and overall plan seeking information and help along the way from parents, carers, teachers and others. As well, there is a wealth of resources on the Web.

Some key actions for Year 10 students to undertake include:
  • Thinking about who they want to be, where they want to be;
  • Developing some sense of career direction, thinking about courses and therefore subject selection;
  • Thinking about mapping their strengths and skills for job/work preparation.

  • Near the end of 2008 all Year 10 students will need to have completed both a pathway plan and a statement of intent (under the Tasmanian Guaranteeing Futures legislation) as to their next step post Year 10: whether that step be senior secondary education, a traineeship or apprenticeship and/or employment.

    The My Future package also includes a selection of resources and links on a student shared directory at College together with the booklet entitled 2008 Job Guide (There is a special section within the Guide for parents and carers - Have they shown you?).
